From “Breast Badges of the Latvian Army 1918-1940” by Janis Vigups, Raimonds Pranks, Vadims Figols, and Vladimirs Balashovs. The authors have researched the archives and regulations and shown how the evolution of the air organization related to changes in insignia. The gold gilt or fire bronze badge was authorized for wear of the members of the Latvian Aviation Division, formed out of the smaller, previous Aviation Park, in 1921. The badge design was approved in 1924. Then in September 1926, the Air Division was reformed into the Air Regiment and the badge was changed from gold to silver. This was in service until the end of the Air Regiment in 1940.
