The grandaddy of all aeronaut badges. The first government issue regulation Aeronaut badges were made in silk, rather than silver wire embroidery as for heaver-than-air aviators. The prescribed double wing badge was to have: "A balloon with letters US and basket at the center, to be of white silk on dark blue wool felt; the letters to be golden (silk) thread.
