This is an Imperial German Army Prinzengrosse (Prince-size) Pilot badge used from 1913 to 1921. Quote from Don Chalif's book regarding these badges - "Throughout the many German states and principalities during the Victorian Era, sons or the ruling families were promoted to officers in the guard regiments at the age of ten years. Family orders (medals) of the ruling houses were then bestowed upon the young princes, which were identical in every detail to the standard sized awards except that they were approximately 3/4-size. This smaller size was designated as the "Prinzengrosse," and during World War 1, it was quite fashionable for German airmen to have their pilot badges fabricated in the Prinzengrosse size to wear on their uniforms."
